Job description

Compensation: Equity only at Qinsight’s current stage. This position does not currently include a cash salary or benefits at this time.

About Qinsight

Qinsight is building an enterprise cryptographic posture management platform that helps organizations discover where and how cryptography is used, identify classical and quantum-era risks, and prepare for the transition to post-quantum cryptography.

Encryption underpins digital identities, transactions, applications, infrastructure, and sensitive data, yet most organizations lack a complete view of their cryptographic estate. Qinsight is working to provide that visibility through automated discovery, normalized cryptographic inventory, evidence-backed risk analysis, policy evaluation, and post-quantum readiness insights.

We are an early-stage cybersecurity company tackling a technically challenging and increasingly urgent problem. We are looking for an experienced backend engineer who wants meaningful ownership of the platform’s foundation.

The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will work closely with our CTO, product team, and engineering partners to design and build the services that power Qinsight Atlas. You will contribute across data ingestion, canonical inventory, APIs, evidence lineage, integrations, and enterprise platform architecture.

This role is well suited to an engineer who is comfortable operating with ambiguity, making pragmatic architectural decisions, and building secure systems from an early stage.

What We’re Looking For

  • Five or more years of professional backend engineering experience.
  • Strong experience designing APIs, backend services, and data-intensive applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern backend language and ecosystem.
  • Experience with relational databases, data modeling, asynchronous processing, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Understanding of secure software development, authentication, authorization, and multi-tenant systems.
  • Ability to translate evolving product requirements into maintainable technical solutions.
  • Strong ownership, communication, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort working in an early-stage environment where priorities and requirements will evolve.

Helpful Experience

  • Cybersecurity, cryptography, PKI, key management, cloud security, or post-quantum cryptography.
  • Asset inventory, entity resolution, graph relationships, or evidence-management systems.
  • Policy engines, risk-scoring systems, compliance platforms, or security findings.
  • CycloneDX, CBOMs, SBOMs, CMDBs, or enterprise security integrations.
  • Building an enterprise SaaS product from an early stage.

Deep cryptography expertise is not required, but curiosity about the problem and a willingness to learn are essential.

Why Join Qinsight?

  • Work on a consequential security problem with growing enterprise urgency.
  • Influence foundational architecture and product decisions.
  • Take meaningful ownership without layers of bureaucracy.
  • Work directly with the founding team and experienced cybersecurity professionals.
  • Help define an emerging category at the intersection of cryptography, cybersecurity, and quantum readiness.

Compensation and Commitment

This is an equity-only position at Qinsight’s current stage. There is no cash salary or employee benefits associated with the role at this time. Equity amount, vesting terms, expected time commitment, responsibilities, and engagement structure will be discussed transparently and documented before joining.

Job responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build reliable backend services and APIs for Qinsight Atlas.
  • Develop pipelines for ingesting, normalizing, correlating, and querying cryptographic discovery data.
  • Help implement the canonical data model for algorithms, protocols, certificates, keys, secrets, libraries, configurations, assets, and their relationships.
  • Build evidence lineage, snapshotting, and historical tracking capabilities.
  • Design secure multi-tenant data-access patterns and support RBAC, auditability, and data isolation.
  • Integrate with cloud platforms, security tools, KMS/HSM systems, PKI platforms, CMDBs, repositories, and other enterprise data sources.
  • Improve system performance, reliability, observability, testing, and deployment practices.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to define stable, versioned product APIs.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, architecture decisions, and engineering standards.
  • Review code and help establish a thoughtful, security-first engineering culture.
