Head of Engineering
Qinsight is looking for an engineering leader to manage development of our cryptographic posture management platform (Equity Only)
Job description
Compensation: Equity only at Qinsight’s current stage. This position does not currently include a cash salary or benefits at this time.
About Qinsight
Qinsight is building an enterprise cryptographic posture management platform that helps organizations discover where and how cryptography is used, identify classical and quantum-era risks, and prepare for the transition to post-quantum cryptography.
Cryptography is embedded throughout modern enterprises, but responsibility for it is fragmented across infrastructure, cloud, applications, PKI, key-management systems, repositories, and security teams. Qinsight Atlas is designed to create a normalized, evidence-backed view of that environment and help enterprises manage cryptographic risk with greater confidence.
We are looking for a hands-on Head of Engineering to help turn that vision into a scalable enterprise product and engineering organization.
The Role
The Head of Engineering will partner closely with the CTO and CEO to lead engineering execution across Qinsight Atlas. The CTO will continue to guide the company’s technical and cryptographic strategy; the Head of Engineering will translate that direction into architecture, delivery plans, engineering practices, and a high-performing team.
This is a player-coach position. The right person will be comfortable moving between technical leadership, hands-on engineering, delivery management, recruiting, and cross-functional decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
- Eight or more years of software engineering experience, including meaningful technical leadership responsibility.
- Experience leading engineering for an early-stage startup, enterprise SaaS platform, cybersecurity company, or similarly complex product.
- Strong backend, systems, data-platform, or cloud architecture experience.
- Demonstrated ability to remain technically hands-on while leading teams and delivery.
- Experience managing engineers, contractors, or distributed development partners.
- Strong understanding of secure development, multi-tenant architecture, data protection, and production operations.
- Ability to make pragmatic build-versus-buy and short-term-versus-long-term architectural decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Comfort operating in an environment with limited resources, evolving requirements, and significant individual ownership.
Helpful Experience
- Cybersecurity products, cryptography, PKI, key management, or quantum-readiness initiatives.
- Security discovery, asset inventory, entity resolution, evidence lineage, or graph-based systems.
- Policy engines, risk-scoring platforms, findings management, or compliance technology.
- Enterprise integrations involving cloud platforms, CMDBs, KMS/HSM systems, repositories, or security tools.
- Building an engineering function from an early stage through initial enterprise customers.
Deep expertise in post-quantum cryptography is not required. The ability to build excellent engineering systems and collaborate effectively with cryptographic and security experts is more important.
Why Join Qinsight?
- Shape the architecture and engineering culture of an early-stage cybersecurity company.
- Work directly with the founding team on a technically important and rapidly emerging problem.
- Build a product intended for complex, security-conscious enterprises.
- Have meaningful influence over the product, team, and long-term technical direction.
- Help establish a new category in cryptographic posture management and post-quantum readiness.
Compensation and Commitment
This is an equity-only leadership position at Qinsight’s current stage. There is no cash salary or employee benefits associated with the role at this time. Equity amount, vesting terms, expected time commitment, decision rights, responsibilities, and engagement structure will be discussed transparently and documented before joining.
To apply, please provide a resume or LinkedIn profile and a brief note describing a platform or engineering organization you helped build, the role you played, and why Qinsight interests you.
Qinsight is committed to building an inclusive team and welcomes qualified candidates from all backgrounds.
Job responsibilities
What You’ll Do
- Own engineering execution and delivery across the Qinsight Atlas platform.
- Partner with the CTO to translate technical strategy and product priorities into implementable architecture and roadmaps.
- Remain hands-on with system design, code, architecture reviews, and critical technical decisions.
- Lead development of secure backend services, product APIs, data pipelines, enterprise integrations, and cloud infrastructure.
- Coordinate work across internal engineers, contractors, and external development partners.
- Establish development processes that improve delivery speed without sacrificing security, quality, or maintainability.
- Implement appropriate standards for code review, automated testing, observability, documentation, release management, and incident response.
- Identify architectural and delivery risks early and communicate tradeoffs clearly to the founding team.
- Work with product leadership to define achievable releases and maintain disciplined scope.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop Qinsight’s engineering team as the company grows.
- Support customer evaluations and design partnerships by translating enterprise requirements into sustainable product capabilities.
- Help prepare the platform for enterprise security, reliability, privacy, and compliance expectations.
